On September 8, 2004 the first post on the new website was made after an active Yahoo! Group out grew the simplicities of the medium. It was quite active for several years, and expanded it's content from just being a message board to an information source. I'm case you can't remember some details concerning 2004, let me refresh your memory: The medium known as "social media" did not exist. The only way groups of people could interact with each other was on message board websites or the simpler email groups. If you wanted peer-to-peer assistance or to discuss a common topic, this was it. Dennis DeYoung had no official online presence. His "Grand Illusion Music" website was put on a self-imposed hiatus, and anything Styx-related would concern the group without Dennis as a member, since he was removed from the group less than five years earlier. Any comments were usually negative concerning Dennis, or completely ignored him and his contributions to Styx. The large Styx fan base had been split and had turned against itself with constant arguing. Sadly this aspect still continues today. DDY Talk was a place where members recognized Dennis' contributions and supported him. Not only for what he did as a member of Styx but for whatever the future may have in store for his career. Simply put, they cared for Dennis DeYoung the individual, not just Styx. All discussions were of a pro-Dennis nature, and possibly a little more bashing of his former bandmates than I would like to recognize now, but it was an extremely volatile time to be a fan. With this forum, people were able to express that they still cared about Dennis DeYoung. The website grew and expanded with a few interviews, as well as discography information and lyrics. It was redesigned several times at first, because I knew what I wanted, but not sure how to do it. After teaching myself HTML, and then later CSS and eventually basic PHP I was able to make the site better, and much more than a message board. In 2006 the website received an award for design. In 2008 work was being done for a complete redesign as the way things were presented in the Web were changing: Screens were getting bigger and smaller, with larger resolution desktops which gave away to phones and tablets. Real Player, and then QuickTime disappeared. I started learning Flash only to see that go away. The 2008 redesign was based on a color scheme from the cover of "One Hundred Years From Now" and liked really good, but unfortunately never came to be. It was a lot of time, effort, and hard work, and I had other things in my life demanding my attention. Plus, she new websites called MySpace and Facebook were just starting up, and all of the discussion that was happening in the message board moved to these new platforms. Also, by this time, Dennis once again had an active website and was touring regularly. The need for someplace like DDY Talk wained, and the site would remain dormant. I still paid the bill every year, as I just couldn't let it go and shut the site down. In 2019 I started working with she of the additions in the message board software to update the website and hopefully get it ready for when "26 East Volume 1" was to be released. A lot was done, but not completed. I still haven't added "Volume 2" into the site yet. So here we are 20 years later. Even though many things have changed, and that the website has been dormant for most of us existence, it still exists. For the simple reason to say "thank you" to the person that wrote lyrics and music that shaped my life, and the lives of those that came to this website to share. The impact that Dennis DeYoung has made with the music that he had created as a member of Styx and beyond, as well as the impact on my life, will never be forgotten. Ron Stevens 9/7/24

The Mini-Movie preceded the concert during the Kilroy Was Here tour. It was to set up the story and lead the audience into the concert.

Yes it still exists! I don't really have the heart to take it down, even though the forums have been pretty much dead since social media took over. I still have the hope that I'll find the time to complete all of the missing information so it can become a site celebrating all that Dennis has done in his career. But life has a way of taking over. I still haven't included information about Vol. 2 or this year's production of Hunchback. Hopefully someday. It's hard to even contact former members as most of them probably have new email addresses since they registered on the site--especially since the site started in 2004. Maybe I can have things done for the 20th anniversary

After the Edge of the Century tour the members of Styx started working on a new album. But A&M Records, who had been purchased by PolyGram in 1989, was disappointed with sales, and dropped Styx from the label. Styx recorded a nine song demo to shop around to get signed to another label. But the music had changed in the early 90's, and the music of Styx just didn't fit with Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Nobody was interested. Styx would do nothing until A&M wanted to release a Greatest Hits album in 1995, and Styx reunited with Tommy Shaw to record a new version of Lady for that collection. The demo recording has become a bit of Styx lore. Known by fans as Son of Edge or Edge of the Century II. Some of the songs have been recorded for solo artist releases. Several are still unreleased. It is unknown if the nine songs were going to end up on a final release, or if the track sequencing was what it would be on a final release. THE DEMO TRACKS It Takes Love to Make Love (Bob Burger, Glen Burtnik) - Released as It Takes Love on Greatest Hits Part 2. The released version is the demo with Tommy's vocals added. Glen's vocals are said to have been removed, but that is not confirmed Nothing In Common (Dennis DeYoung) - unreleased Love on My Mind (Glen Burtnik, Rick Neigher) - Glen originally wrote the song for Rod Stewart who never recorded it. Unreleased Watching the World Go By (Bob Burger, Glen Burtnik) - released on the Glen Burtnik album Palookaville Beneath the Moon (Dennis DeYoung) - released on the Dennis DeYoung album Boomchild All For Love (Dennis DeYoung, Glen Burtnik) - Was performed live at several Dennis DeYoung concerts that were promoted as "Lost Treasures" shows. Special guest Glen Burtnik joined Dennis and his band (Dennis called them "Denny and Glenny" shows). Other than these few performances, the song officially remains unreleased Devil In Me (Bob Burger, Glen Burtnik) - unreleased Someday We'll Fly (Dennis DeYoung) - unreleased Don't Give Up on Me (Glen Burtnik, Plink Giglio) - released on the Glen Burtnik album Retrospectacle

If I knew back then All the things I know today Baby I would not have changed one hour 'Cause I learned so much from my mistakes All the nights we cried And we prayed we'd see the morning light We never thought that we could make it And you were sure you'd never hear me say This is the time This is the moment We've waited so long Just to be standing here We had a dream We made it happen Nobody believed that we could get this far And now, I know that this is our time You never wanted any fortune or fame You said "Baby just give me your heart" And now I'll tell you without any shame That you were right from the start Stayin' together, it ain't easy In a world that changes so fast But take a look around Our feet are squarely on the ground 'Cause we've found a love that can last And it seems so clear I know that this is going to be our year We'll forget about the pain and sorrow And we'll forget about the times we failed This is the time This is the moment We've waited so long Just to be standing here We had a dream My God it happened Nobody believed that we could get this far This is the time This is the moment Nobody believer that we could get this far We had a dream My God it happened Nobody believed that we could last this long And now, I know that this is our time Baby, baby it's our time

The world is in chaos The rats are running the race The streets are on fire Evil has a new face The fields can be savage Killers walk in plain sight Days of sheer darkness Solemn turns on the night Help us all to change We can be lions Kings of the world No matter how hard the times are Our pride will find the pearls We are the lions Fighters of peace Fortune favors the bravest Grant you this war release The snow has been graying Fools are coming of age Drop a bomb of resistance Escaping the blame There's kids in the wreckage The sun is blood red Are we losing the war? Are we burning the bed? Help us all to change We can be lions Kings of the world No matter how hard the times are Our pride will find the pearls We are the lions Fighters of peace Fortune favors the bravest Grant you this war release We can help them all to change Help us all to change We can be lions Kings of the world No matter how hard the times are Our pride will find the pearls We are the lions Fighters of peace Fortune favors the bravest Grant you this war release And help us all to change

You can't tell me you're trying to figure out how to be cool looking at catalogs So forget about it You have to do it the old fashion way You gotta fake it Yeah Play your drum boy I like music The rhythm really gets to me I can't control it My feet move automatically And I like hot licks The kind I wish that I could play And when I hear them I crank the volume all the way Turn it on Turn it up Turn it loud All the way I like strangers Their kindness means a lot to me They don't ask questions Don't care about my history And I like fast girls I don't know what's come over me They make me do things I would not ordinarily Turn me on Turn me up Turn me loose All the way Hear it, feel it, like it Do it do it do it to it Want it, need it, love it Can't get enough of it Try it, do it, go ahead and go for it All the way And I like daydreams I've had enough reality My job is boring I'm overworked and underpaid I like TV It stirs up all my fantasies Girls in tight jeans Acting so outrageously Turn me on Turn me up Turn me loose All the way Hear it, feel it, like it Do it do it do it to it Want it, need it, love it Can't get enough of it Try it, do it, go ahead and go for it All the way I like big things The size of them impresses me Just give me plenty Forget about the quality And I like fast food The burgers always taste the same No snotty waiters Escargot or Beaujolais Turn me on Turn me up Turn me loose Turn it loud All the way Hear it, feel it, like it Do it do it do it to it Want it, need it, love it Can't get enough of it Hear it, feel it, like it Do it do it do it to it Try it, do it, go ahead bang on it All the way Hey everybody it's music time

And so my friends I'll say goodbye For time has claimed it's prize But the music never dies Just listen and close your eyes Welcome to paradise

It's so hard to say goodbye So I promise not to cry But any tears that might be shed Are only tears of joy And I thank my lucky stars That we've come so very far Rising up against the odds To where we are today And though there may be sadness Let's all raise a glass Cheers to us and all that's passed To the good old days When the world was new When we still believed Dreams could come true To the good old days And to all our friends May the memories last May they never end So we'll go our several ways Wishing somehow we could stay Safe again so safe again in all our innocence We we all would sing along As they played our favorite song Dreaming of tomorrow's That seemed so limitless So as we come together Let's make this moment last Here's to us and to the past To the good old days To the sweetest years To the ones we loved Through the laughs and tears To the times ahead May we all forgive To the good old days Long may they live Funny how the years have slipped away Always there beyond our grasp Funny how it all seems look back Oh oh oh To the good old days When we all were young To the love we shared May our songs be sung To the times ahead May we all forgive To the good old days May they always live

All my life I have tried To make sense of this dream I’m chasing Tryin’ to silence the voice Tellin’ me I’m not good enough Be the best you can be Boy remember to keep on smilin Try, try harder And someday day soon you’ll see ’Cause you can do better ya know These are the words that I heard long ago But to never give up or given in man its takin it’s toll Damn the dream that steals the night With restless thoughts till mornings light In sleepless hours we ask is this what were made of Damn that dream that robs the soul That's cuts us all in half from whole Damn the fears that know just what we’re afraid of. Damn that dream I love that dream What the hell can you do When your future is all in past tense And the clock on the wall keeps spinning round and round Well here’s my point of view When the world seems to make no damn sense Why not take some other avenue ’Cause you can do better ya see Excepting the fact there no guarantees 'Cause every dream falls apart in the face of reality Damn the dream that breaks your heart That leaves you lost and torn apart Searching for a clue to find what you’re made of Damn the dream that promised you The land of Oz then dared come true Leaving you to find it’s all a charade of That damn dream I love that dream Damn that dream I love that dream Damn that dream I love that dream

Ring around the rosie Pocket full of posie Ashes, ashes We all fall down With the kingdom ablaze We averted our gaze By hiding our eyes When the pillars came down We heard not a sound From the city of lies Nero's sang the same song they'd been singing While hero's shot in vain their arrows slinging Then the king and his knaves The fools and the slaves Kept pouring our wine And we knew this should stop But we drank every drop Every grape from the vine Barren grew the land between the oceans And sorcerer's could not conjure magic potions House of cards cried the child We are tribes running wild It was you, it was me It was us, can't we see When our green become our need All will bleed So we mustn't blame fate When fools legislate Without any plan And we dare not ignore The devil in store From the nature of man The future lies in state with tragic endings While we still contemplate our happy endings House of cards cried the child We are tribes running wild Was it you? Was it me? It was us, can't you see? Who cares if the stars and sun don't shine I've got mine Ubi est mea Deus est pecunia House of cards, this malaise Shall we dance? A kingdom ablaze Was it me? Was it you? It was us, true is true Who cares if rivers turn to brine I've got mine

A south side brick bungalow In a lifetime long ago When I was just a lad of seventeen I was searchin for connection To the big machine Feelin’ lost everyone Thinkin’ I was the only one Like a tiny spoke in a wheel just spinnin’ round I was lookin' for direction When I heard that sound And I came alive 'Cause it was all I ever needed I came alive When the rock began to roll And I was revived And now when I feel defeated I hear the best of times and the music frees my soul Just east of midnight I could hear the late night radio And like a lifeline I could find my way Just east of midnight I could hear a world in stereo And like a searchlight I was saved that day So I got me a vehicle A second hand miracle Just a set of wheels with a dashboard radio I was crusin’ down the airwaves In the afterglow So I turned it up 'Cause it was all I ever needed I turned it up When the rock began to roll Now I’m all grown up And now when I feel defeated I remember all the times When the music made me whole Just east of midnight I could hear the late night radio And like a lifeline I could find my way Just east of midnight I could hear a world in stereo And like a searchlight I was saved that day
