Dennis DeYoung's The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a musical based on Victor Hugo's novel. Dennis was inspired to create the work after playing Pontius Pilate in the 1992 production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Typical of most musicals, a demo recording was made featuring the songs to gain interest in making it into a full production. The recording was released in 1996, with Dennis and his sister-in-law Dawn Marie providing all of the principal vocal performances. However, interest in the production was hampered by the release of Disney's animated Hunchback of Notre Dame around the same time.
The following productions have been performed:
- Original story and demo recording
- Nashville, TN; 1997
- Chicago, IL; 2008
- Milwaukee , WI; (delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Hoping for 2021)
