The video part >>

The song- I didn't recognize it, even though I have a copy of One With Everything. I think I listened to it once. While I thought it was a pretty good song, and sounded good, (better than most of the Cyclorama stuff) it certainly does not sound like classic Styx. I am sure that if you were to play this song to someone without telling them who it is, they would never guess Styx. (But I bet they would if you played "Rain" off of the new DDY CD.) Is it me, or do the harmonies sound Who-like?

I don't like the song. Much of the stuff on Cyclo and even Just Be are better IMO. But, the video drives me crazy. Its complete amateur hour. Tommy made it himself on his mac.

I have so little interest in the band calling themselves "Styx" nowadays, this was something I wasn't much interested in seeing or hearing.

I did click on the link to check it out and the video is something a 12 year old kid might likely do with his new video camera. You are right, blt, "amateur hour."

The song is forgettable. They have not sounded like "Styx" since Dennis was booted.

And may I add that that is a singularly unattractive bunch of guys now. (My opinion there)

I may have said this before , Styx (aka Shaw Young Group ) Their new songs sound other bands " Just Be" sounds like Pink Floyd and The Beatles , " One With Everything" has elements of Rush , Even Gowan songs on Cyclorama are similar to Dennis' type songs . If they would Just Be who they are now they may find something new instead of trying to be Styx of the past ............

One with Everything is pretty good and is my fav from that CD. The Gowan songs are, well, Gowan songs. As a Canadian who grew up listening to him in the 80s, he was always a piano guy (until his handlers tried to reimage him into an acoustic guitar guy in the 90s). The songs he wrote for cyclo are piano songs. Dennis writes piano songs. No surprise.

I don't mind Gowan and his songs, I just don't like the way he sings Dennis' songs. If Styx puts out a new CD, it will be interesting to see how many Gowan songs are on it. IMO JY is a weak writer and recent TS songs have not been stellar. Gowan has historically written some pretty good stuff from his solo days so I would not be surprised to see 4-5 Gowan songs on the next CD.

I actually only like JY's two songs off Cyclorama. Just Be sounds like Tommy Shaw solo artist and Everything All The Time sounds like Tommy singing a boring Journey song. I've checked out some of Gowan's solo work and think it is about the most horrid, whimpy 80's pop crap I have ever heard. The video's on YouTube are embarrassing IMO. I can't follow the current Styx because of Gowan and JY. They just bug me.

I have noticed all talk of recording a new CD from The Group That Would be Styx has stopped. I first noticed when I saw that Todd has some project going for the fall (not to do with Styx) and Tommy will resume playing dates with Jack Blades.

Before, they talked about recording this fall for a spring 2008 release.

Anyone know other news regarding this? NOT that I will be rushing to buy it or anything. :-&

I heard that one of the top execs at Universal picked up a copy of JY's "City Slicker" LP at garage sale and thought it was the best thing he has heard in years. In fact, he signed JY to a contract to release a live ablum version of it with JY backed by a 50 peice orchestra! :))
