Why are there so few people on this board?

Dan-

Trust me....I get bummed about the lack of participation around here sometimes. But I feel that there are valid reasons for it, and am willing to persevere through it.

1 - people don't like change. No matter what, for better or worse, people do not like to change much. It's not like the old site was revamped, it was moved to a new location. No matter how popular you are, it's like starting out new all over again. I think that the 49 members that we do have are pretty impressive in the short time that we have been around here at our new address.

2 - people need to know about us. I feel that we had gotton as many people as we could have from Yahoo! groups. Originally to know about us, you had to know about Yahoo! groups, which reduces the number or potential fans to find out about us and join. I have been working on the programming of the web pages on this site to improve awareness to get new people to find us. Of course, everyone else getting the word out helps as well.

3 - active membership. No matter how good a message board is (or its subject matter), it needs active membership. Lurkers are okay, but if the percentage of lurkers is greater than the percentage of active participants, then they have nothing to read when they lurk. Shortly before we switched formats, several active members deceided to no longer participate here. While they are missed, I respect their decision and understand that in the normal course of life people constantly come and go.

4- In the scope of things, we're not that quiet. Sure, there's not the 1000+ posts a month, but we are keeping average with the other Dennis fan boards out there.

On the old ddy-talk list there were tons of posts and e-mails. On the ddy talk.com bulletin board hardly anyone comes in and posts. Why did we have such a huge drop off in participation. It bums me out!

Dan,

I hear ya,

Iwould like to get more mail from this group about Dennis also.

I have been physicaly laid up alot lately, but when I do get a chance to get to my confuser, I like to see a thread or two about Dennis when I open my mail.

O.K. I'll try to start one here <_<

I have seen and heard that DDY is now touring on a limited basis.

( 1 ) What city or town near you would you ike to see him play in ????

( 2 ) How far would you travel ????

PJ,

DDYDAMN

P.S.

I agree with your post Ron :)

Hey everyone:

This is my take on this . . . and by the way, I admit that I do not participate like I used to. The thing is, I had my controls set on the other list where it appeared in my mailbox, so I HAD to read the messages or delete them. I responded all the time then. Now, I need to come to this site physically (or at least cybernetically) to read and respond. It's not that I don't mean to . . . it's just that it is not in front of me as much, pulling my attention. I suspect that is true of many others. I love this site. I just need to get here more often.

Thanks Ron, for carrying on! Keep it up.

I hope all is well.

(1) Why I think he should come here to the City of Brotherly Love, of course :D Cheesesteaks on me!

(2) While I have done it before, I'm not sure if I'll make the 250 mile trip to Foxwoods to see him in March. A Saturday night concert would be easier for me to schedule than a Friday night. Pulling my daughter out of school for a concert just doesn't cut it, and she'd be PO'd if I went without her. I have made the 800 mile trip to Chicago to see him, although I doubt that would happen again.

For me, I think the date and scheduling would determine how far, but I would say 200 miles or less would be a definite go.

PJ, I'd practically be in heaven if DDY'd come to Louisville, the closest so far have been Cincinnati and Indianapolis, both of which I attended. I've been as far as Milwaukee (400 miles by car) and may do that again, but I'll admit, that's probably about my limit and I don't try to attend every show within that 400 mile radius.

And I for one am VERY glad that you're keeping this thing going. I know you've probably put hundreds of hours into it already, and continue to keep things updated. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

You have some very good points about why the take-off of this group has been somewhat slow, at least slower than I expected. I certainly hope, as DDY starts touring again, that we'll have more to talk about.
