Dennis/Styx in Canada

But Dennis has had a guest come in to sing Ave Maria at his Symphony shows since the beginning. He's had Amick or Mike. So this is nothing new, except for the choice of singer. I agree that having Marc-Andre is definately a contentious decision on his/their part.

I think the only reason why the June 23rd concert hasn't sold out is because it's going to be outdoors and is general admission, which means everyone will have to fight for space and there is no guarantee as to the weather. (And it will have a good share of drunks, I'm sure.) That is the only reason why I hesitated to buy my ticket, but I'm going anyway.

How Naive.....STYX sold-out the same Summer Venue at the same exact place 2 years ago.

I don't know why either of you are obsessing with this sell out thing. Afterall, there are still 2 months to go.

Whether he brings guests on stage has nothing to do with a sell out at this stage. With 5 concerts in Montreal in 2006 and 2 already in 2007, I don't think anyone should be surprised that it did not sell out on day one. I presume when Styx played it 2 years ago, they had not already been to Montreal 7 times in the previous 12 months.

Another naive fellow. Who he brings on stage is relevant for many of us!

Language is a political hot potato here in this Country. Particularly in this city (let alone the entire Province).

Boycotting is our way of showing our discontent.

You aren't aware of all the intricacies of our poltical battles over the past decades.

Actually, if I remember correctly, Styx never showed up. The SARS scare was rampant at the time, so they cancelled, citing that reason. They haven't been to Montreal since, but I'm sure you can figure out why. :-)

That being said, they're scheduled to play at Casino Roma in Ontario, near the American border, this summer.

They showed up after the SARS scare at Bourbon Street North. "The Box" & "Saga" played before them. Ricky Philips was introduced to us, and Chuck also showed.

Fans were angry, due to the fact that Gowan lived near the epicenter of the Sars outbreak. CHOM FM had a field day with this, and also spoke with Charlie Brusco live on the radio.

I was surpised that it sold out, because of this incident, and a previous cancellation.

I grew up in Montreal and moved to Toronto 10 years ago. As an anglophone from Montreal I am well aware of the politics and language issues in the country as a whole and in Quebec.

Please don't call me naive. You and your friends have the right to boycott and it may matter to many of you who he brings on stage but don't tell me that the concert is not sold out because of language and political issues. DDY is an entertainer. He sings for a living. He is popular in Quebec not because of the small anglophone community. The french like him. He pays them back by bringing their own version of an american idol wannabe on stage for a song. Big deal. It may upset people but that is not the reason why the show is not sold out. In fact, before he brought out any other singer on stage, none of the shows anywhere in Quebec sold out as quickly as last year. Why? Because he has been hitting the quebec circuit for over a year now.

Casino Rama is not near the American border. It is about 1.5 hours north of Toronto. They played there last year. Dennis also played in Toronto last year with symphony. I did not go to either show.

Ah, okay, this was after the scare. Why don't I remember that? I've been listening to CHOM since I moved here 6 years ago.

Anyway, it's cool they came back.

You are trying to tie the political and language situation in Quebec to the fact that Dennis' concert at Bourbon is not sold out. I don't buy it. You called me naive, so I gave you my background. How long I have been away from Montreal is irrelevant to making an informed conclusion on why Dennis' concert is not sold out. My friends and family in Montreal no longer spend their time consummed by the language issue... its just not worth it.
