Tiresias
Does anyone know how a DDY fan obtains a post concert backstage pass to meet Dennis in person? I purchased the Hunchback of Notre Dame CD last February (great CD by the way) and when I received the CD in the mail it was accompanied by a survey and one of the questions asked if I would be interested in a meet & greet after a concert. Unfortunately, I received this item less than a week before the concert that I attended in Cerritos, CA on February 11th. I will be attending the August 18th concert in San Diego and one love nothing more than to meet my musical idol and to tell him what an awesome talent he is. I am open to suggestions from my fellow DDY fans.
Ron
Probably the most common way to get a meet and greet with Dennis is through purchasing special tickets that are sold as a tie in with the local PBS station. You donate a certain dollar amount to the PBS station, then when Dennis comes to town you can receive 2 best-in-the-house tickets and a meet and greet after the show. Warning: tickets are for several hundred dollars, so be prepared to pay some big bucks if you wish to do this (but at least it's a tax writeoff ). Also the "It's who you know..." factor can come into play to get you a pass backstage. Be warned--know what to expect before you commit to doing a meet and greet, least you get dissapointed for setting too high of an expectation of the event. I think we talked about the perils and misconceptions about meet and greets here sometime last year. You can probably search for it, and I am sure that others can chime in with their input as well. Ron Having never experienced a meet and greet of any kind, this may sound like a naive question, but here goes. Do you meet DDY and Suzanne only, or do you also have an opportunity to meet the rest of the band?
mendelstyx
Having never experienced a meet and greet of any kind, this may sound like a naive question, but here goes. Do you meet DDY and Suzanne only, or do you also have an opportunity to meet the rest of the band? Meet & greets are very different than what many people would believe. I have been fortunate enough to have been at some. Basically, you wait for the crowd to leave. Then you either head to the lobby, a room backstage, or somewhere where everyone will fit. You are told that you cannot (normally) take photos (especially flash photos) and you are asked to have only one thing signed by Dennis (or Suzanne). I witnessed several people attempt to grossly abuse this. Dennis and Suzanne are usually seated at a table. You basically go through a receiving line. Both are very gracious to the fans, however bear in mind that he is normally tired after a performance so between the crowd size there and his own level of comfort, in depth conversation does not occur. Mostly people limit it to saying thank you and making a comment about the performance or some song that he did that touched them in some way. What I am trying to say (and not doing so hot with), is that it is very impersonal as they are trying to accomodate a large number of people in a short period of time, so don't look for anything special. It is a nice gesture on his part, one he isn't obligated to, and one that inevitably leaves someone feeling less than satisfied (which is a shame). As for the band members...I've seen them break down their own equipment, and usually they stick around to talk with fans for a few minutes. But remember, they too usually want to get out of there. Though I must say, every time I've been able to see them, they have always been extremely nice to everyone. Hope that helps. Liz
