A NIGHT OF GREATEST HITS..........

It's getting tougher to get a set list for Dennis, this time there were none. Last time I got the only one. Someone else is going to post too and maybe I will have missed something or have it in the wrong order as I don't like to take notes during a show and I had a earache and a hearing problem so I wasn't up to snuff.

Dennis DeYoung-

Grand Illusion

Lady

Desert Moon

Lorelei

Suite Madame Blue

Hello God

Mr Roboto

Don't Let It End

Babe

The Best Of Times

Come Sail Away

Amick wasn't there, so nothing from Hunchback. I missed hearing 'With Every Heartbeat, but it was soooooooooo GREAT to hear 'Hello God', and Dennis was at the piano the whole time! Oh yes, add 'Show Me The Way' to the set list. Dennis picked up the other part of course. I see I forgot to add that to the Detroit set listtoo. I was sooooooooooo tired. I'm not too tired right now buy my head is mess with this ear problem so bear with me as I am sure I will make mistakes!

I was able to snag a Air Supply set list. A lot was crossed of, but I am sure that was just because of the double bill.

Air Supply-

Even The Nights

Here I Am

Chances-VERY COOL TO HEAR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The One That You Love

Lost In Love

Every Woman

Making Love

All Out Of Love

Even though they only played eight songs. It seemed a lot longer. To get it right this time, Air Supply opended!! LOL!! The sound and mixing was off really bad at first and got somewhat better, but these two guys can still sing and play. The vocals were impressive and so was the energy. Air Supply really does ROCK!!! LOL! At one point they went out into the audience. I believe it was for 'Lost In Love'. Reminded me of a Neil Diamond concert. Ladies making their way to give a kiss, someone even snagged a picture! We were in the front row so all of us got up and turned around and just watched it all go down as they were making their way around the audience during that one song. It was pretty cool. Before I forget, it was also cool to see them behind the soundboard, that was on stage, during a point for Dennis! I believe it was during 'Suite Madame Blue.' It was fun watching them, watch Dennis.

It was truly just a night of greatest hits from Air Supply. It was a lot of fun. Just like with Dennis, you just sit there thinking-WOW!, these guys had a ton of hits!!!!!

Most of the people that were around us had come for Air Supply. This couple to the right of us, it was his 14th time and the gal he brought, I believe it was her first, or at least her first time being in the front row!! And she had a few to drink. Let's just say, she was a bit loud. She didn't know a lot of Dennis' stuff until she heard it and when Dennis intro'd the band and said Kyle's name, she wouldn't quit screaming. Dennis finally came over and said-'he's dreamy' and she stopped. She was on her cell phone and just having her own little private party. Some started to tell her to-SHUT UP!! LOL!!

A couple of the songs they changed the tempo on-but it 'didn't suck!'

We think that Graham Russel secretly wants to be a rock star!! He was a mad man with the guitar. He was directly right in front of us and we could't stop laughing. It was lot of fun. Even though we know with these double bills that we aren't going to get a ton of songs from Dennis, we will take anything we can get from him and it is fun to see acts that we may not make a point to go get tickets for.

The people on each side of us were HUGE Air Supply fans. There were a lot of just ladies that came, and they came in threes.

Before the show started people were asking who came for who. As I mentioned, many around us came for Air Supply. So they started to ask us questions and we just kept saying-WAIT, you will be blown away at how many songs you know!! One thing about this double bill is that people are learing who this 'Dennis DeYoung' guy is!!

The orchestra DID NOT play with Air Supply. Some Air Supply fans were let down and felt mislead.

After Air Supply, the HUGE projection screen came down again and had the front of the doulbe live cd on it.

The orchestra did not open with a medley of songs. Started with the Grand Illusion. When Dennis came out, we of course stood up and some did, but it was not like Detroit. Everyone sat down right away. In Detroit we all stood for the whole song and sat as he started Lady at the piano. Being that we were front row, basically center, we felt that we should to. We still cannot get used to being seating during these songs, but I could go on and and on about that! Doesn't mean you can't go nuts in your seat!!

Dennis' sound and mix was fantastic of course! Would it be any other way!!?? Matt was running around in between the shows doing a lot on stage.

Sorry for not doing this in order, but my head.........

When songs would start you would hear a certain section of the audience go nuts and people saying-"I know this!!!!!" Heard this over and over and over. For it being a quiter audience as far as staying in their seats even more than Detroit, if this is possible, after each songs was done, the reaction was louder than Detroit. We ourselves are still amazed each and every time how Dennis singing sounds, and how everyone that is on stage sounds. We never ever, ever tire of hearing these songs and Dennis never let's us down in his delivery!!!! We heard a lot of people going-WOW and AH!!

Dennis was his usual funny self and in good spirits. When he asked who had never seen him with Styx or solo, the response was even louder than Detroit. Then he says something like, where the hell have you been? Waiting for me to die?

The theatre was pretty full. It seats about 2,400.

I don't believe there were any new jokes this time and for those wondering, he had on a dark blue pin stripe suti.

We stood for the first ten seconds of Lorelei. You have too!! But no one got up, so we sat right back down.........

During the show when Dennis goes into his spill about directly speaking to someone and asking them if they think he is still a good looking guy and all that, I was the guy he chose. Neat, but I am so shy. At the end of Mr Roboto he gave my wife a big weird smile. It was so funny.

I am sure by now, that Dennis and gang are used to the fact that people are not going to be standing like a typical rock show.

I'm going to jump to the end because my head and ear are so foggy right now, I cannot think of anything else.

The curtain dropped again after 'The Best Of Times'. We saw Dennis on the left of the curtain starting to come out with the 'broom', but then he went back. He forgot his mice. (He explained forgetting the mice and, but it was on a cord, and about getting the broom, but not the reason) We don't think many get it. He was only able to come out a few feet and go in a circle, so it wasn't the same.

This next part is tough. When 'Come Sail Away' started, we got up. I think in Detroit a lot more people knew what was going on and were already standing. Here, they weren't. This had to be the first time that no one, including us, was standing for the start of 'Come Sail Away.' Sort of like Soundstage. But when it started to kick in, we said, TOUGH!! There is no way we are not going to stand. Even when it started Dennis talks about how he did his part and now it's our turn, but most stayed seated. As the song was going on, you could see areas here and there, but it was the poorest we have even seen. Even though is the second row behind us did not get up. Sorry, but too bad!! We did our thing and went nuts. How can you not. Dennis tried to get them up and they wouldn't. So that was a bit weird, but it didn't stop the song from souning awesome, as it does every time.

We hung around at the end because we wanted to say hi to someone, let the traffic thin out, and I didn't have to work the next day. First time ever!! We saw Dennis hanging out on the side, but that was it. It's all good, I have met him many times before and don't get all weird.

It's all about hearing these songs that this man created, and hearing them still sound so great and truly realizing that they still mean so much. And also being blown away, that you are still blown away every single time. I just keep shaking my head because his voice blows me away every time. So many have lost it. Not this man!!

Oh yeah, when Dennis was going over to the piano to get on the other keys and do that part during 'Come Sail Away', he asked Suzanne what happened. Not sure if something happened or the fact that so many stayed seated.

We were able to see Suzanne watching the show the whole time. She came out and sang for a couple of times. He called her out at one time to into her and gave her lots of kissed. It was precious.

We stopped at the Waffle House afterwards and got a waffle, of course. We don't have any, so it was fun.

It just never gets old and it never gets old watching and listening to people who think they won't know anything.

The merch booth was a buzz again, so that's cool. Many around us were going to go and get the Soundstage DVD. They thought the show was great and that he sounded really good. They couldn't believe how good he sounded. Kyle and Tommy always play so awesome and if it's possible, Dawn and Hank were even more on it as far as the vocals. Always blown away how the orchestra learns this stuff so fast and sounds so great.

All we could talk about was all the hits we just heard between the two acts. It was so much fun. What a nice break!!

I believe it was about three hours total for everything. Oh yes, Dennis held the note on SMB for about 25 or 26 seconds.

Guess that's all my little mind can think of right now. I am sure I will add more or change something!!

I forgot to add about the high rode that we took. Dennis is still teaching us all something, and not just through his music.

First off, why someone would tell someone who they know is a HUGE!!! DDY fan that Styx is better off without him, and do it at a Dennis solo show is beyond me. I could come up with many reasons, but I shall remail nice.

We just bit our lips, and didn't say a word, plus Dennis was about to come on and why ruin one of the best moments of our lives!!!!

I see Desert Moon's already posted, so this may be repetitive but here ya go!

OK, I’ve been very busy, playing catch-up from leaving early yesterday, but I’ll do the best I can.

Both show were amazing! I’m very glad I made it even if it did mean driving 1/3 of the day to do so (I don’t know how you OTR drivers do it!).

Here’s the set lists:

Air Supply –

Even The Nights

Here I Am

Chances

The One That You Love

Lost In Love

Every Woman

Making Love

All Out Of Love

Dennis –

Grand Illusion

Lady

Desert Moon

Lorelei

Show Me the Way

Suite Madame Blue

Rockin’ The Paradise

Mr Roboto

Don't Let It End

Babe

The Best Of Times

Come Sail Away

Dennis show was pretty much the same as previous shows, so I’ll just make a few comments.

First it was great to FINALLY meet Lynnette; I just wish we’d had time to sit down & talk.

I guess I’ve been kind of a “passive” fan of Air Supply for many years, but last night was my first show. I was blown away by both the vocal quality and the energy of the duo. I have to agree with Lynnette—they ROCKED! I also agree with Lynnette about how very different their music is live compared to the studio recordings; I did not expect there to be that much difference between them. I haven’t checked yet, but if they’ve got a live album I’m going to have to get it – and soon! Might I also add that Dennis was not the only one there last night with a GREAT set of pipes!

I did have one small problem with the show. I’m sure that for those with seats on the floor, it was wonderful to have the duo playing in the audience during “The One that You Love,” but for those of us in the balcony it was actually kind of boring (JMO).

I have to admit that, much as I love their music, if Air Supply had not been opening for Dennis, I probably never would have seen them perform. And that would definitely have been MY loss! I’m really thrilled to have experienced this show and would definitely be more interested in seeing a full Air Supply show, one that includes “Sweet Dreams”.

As for Dennis’ show, what can I say but WOW! It was great to see him in such great voice (the last 2 or 3 times I’d seen him, he’d either been sick or battling a cold). It was nice to have “Rockin’ the Paradise” back in the set for this show. The ONLY disappointment was the omission of “Castle Walls.” That is probably my most favorite song in the orchestra tour, and I truly missed it. We also had a couple with us that had never seen Dennis perform (they’ve seen the current Styx) and we had talked up the song so much they were disappointed as well. Oh well, c’est la vie! We’ll just have to make a full Dennis show next time!

Oh, and I loved the addition of the reverb (is that right?) at certain points of “Suite Madam Blue.” I think it really added to the song and I don’t think I’ve heard it in there before.

About the audience, I was somewhat disappointed by the size. While the floor was probably 80% full, the balcony seemed practically empty, so maybe the crowd was at 2/3? A little disappointing for a theatre that seats just over 2,800. I wonder how much having back-to-back shows in somewhat close locales as well as being mid-week instead of weekend dates effected the turnout. We were even able to move from the balcony to the 12th row during intermission because of the number of empty seats on the floor—not that I’m complaining about that, mind you!

Anyway it was a terrific evening! I finally made it home at 4:00am and was back to work at 7:30am. Needless to say, I’m existing on caffeine right now! But it was definitely worth it!

It's not that bad. And Louisville to Columbus is a short trip anyway. You have to realize that there are a lot of idiots out there on the road and drive carefully. Lots of Diet Coke helps as well. At least in a car you can travel 65mph in the Buckeye; I'm limited to 55mph--zero tollerence for big trucks.

Anyway, I'm glad the two of you enjoyed yourselves at the show. I would haveto say that a mid-week show would have the bad effects on attendence that you commented on. It also seems to me that these double bill shows will be more of a name exposure plan for Dennis--he can get people to identify his name with the songs that he wrote for Styx.

If bathwater drinkers think Styx is so much better without Dennis then why are they at one of Dennis' shows???

I heard 3 Styx songs and Desert Moon on the radio today. :) I know I can listen to them anytime but it sounds so much better to hear them on the radio.

Well, that is cool you took the high road. But whoever that crazy person was to say such a thing like Styx is better of without DDY? First off they are as wrong as wrong can get. But the truth is, Dennis is better off without Styx.

What is up with that? I feel EXACTLY the same way! It's so much better to hear it on the radio. I think it's the unexpectedness that stops me, like someone out there must know that it will bring a smile to my face.

I just wish I'd have that kind of luck with our stations. Styx/Dennis don't figure much into the 200 songs in their catalogues, I guess. Thank goodness for cd players!

Ah, the joy of satellite radio. If you are a music buff I cannot recommend this strongly enough: GET IT! It is worth the cost. You will never listen to crappy FM radio again with all of their commercials, stupid contests, and 200 song playlists. The two service providers available (Sirius and XM are pretty much the same when it comes to music--people end up choosing one or the other based on what sports they listen to and/or talk shows. Siruis has NFL, Hockey, and in 2006 Howard Stern. XM has NASCAR, and Opie and Anthony. I have XM and love it! XM also has just added web streaming, so if you have broadband you can pay per month to stream XM. They also have a satellite radio that plugs into your USB port so you can listen on your computer, without using any of your bandwidth. Radios have come down in price since they were first introduced, with prices starting around $100.

Listening to the 80's 70's and classic rock channels, I average one Styx song a day, if I'm lucky more. Today I heard two.

I cannot stress it enough: If you love music (and have the time to listen to it, even passively) you'll love satellite radio.

I feel the same way, I think it's because I know that other people are listening too and Dennis just might pick-up a few new fans!
