Jon Bernard
Hey guys, I’ve noticed I often form opinions about people almost instantly, even without really knowing them. Why does this happen so naturally, and is it something our brain just does automatically or can we actually control it?
Dorito
Yeah, it’s actually pretty common. Our brain is wired to make quick judgments because it saves time and energy - kind of like a shortcut when we don’t have enough information. You can read more about this at https://blog.wedaf.com/blog/why-we-judge-people-too-quickly/ We rely on past experiences, stereotypes, and even social influences to fill in the gaps. It also helps us feel safer, like we’re quickly deciding if someone is “safe” or not. The problem is this leads to bias and confirmation bias - we stick to our first impression. Media and culture also shape these snap judgments. The good news is we can slow down, question our assumptions, and try to understand people better.
