ladybugking
Met up with the usual suspects, plus a few members of another message board, in Rockford on Saturday. Dennis was casual/comfortable for this one. "Jerry Lee" rock and roll shirt and jeans and tennies. There was a bit of change in the posted schedule, and Dennis went on at the Great Lawn Stage at 9 p.m., after some beautiful fireworks over the Rock River. His set lasted just under 2 hours. No bells. No whistles. Band only. He did not do a Lost Treasures show, per se. The only "lost treasure" was a very rocking, very blast-you-back-in-your-seat version of "Best Thing." The rest of the setlist was pretty much his regular show minus the Hunchback numbers. Instead of "First Time", he performed "Hello God," which he felt was more apropos of the occasion. That and "Show Me the Way" -- dedicated to the Katrina victims. I think more people felt the emotion of the moment during "Suite Madame Blue", though he got a standing O for SMTW. As is always the case with me, I had a wonderful time and enjoyed every second of this concert. I always do, but I haven't been to enough of them to truly compare the great with the not so great. To me, they are all awesome. One fun aspect -- I poked the person next to me who just happened to be Liz, and pointed out a boy of about 8 or 9 years old. He was standing up and putting every ounce of his body and voice into "Mr. Roboto." He was just WONDERFUL! We got such a kick out of him. Even better though was when Dennis went into "Don't Let It End. " this little boy was full volume, word for word on THAT song as well. Ron
Glad you had such a great time Kathy. The fact that there are many of those in the younger generation enjoying Dennis' music shows how timeless it really is. Ron
