BTW, Shawn, was the Magnum PI episode part of the Season on dvd or do you just have that great a memory?

Easy enough to remember seeing what was the current album jacket of my favorite band held up in full view on a show I watched fairly regularly. :-) I have no clue if that particular episode is on any DVD collection of the show though.

Well, I think we all need to know if it's on the DVD collection or not. So, I'll just have to do a little private investigating of my own. ;)

Which scene in ROADIE features a Styx song? I don't have the soundtrack but after seeing Alice and Cheap Trick this weekend at the State Fair (it was just sooooooooooooooooo Roadie!) I have to rewatch that movie soon (I do have it on DVD). If someone could just give me an idea of where I'll find the Styx song in it that'd be great!

That Will Ferrell SNL skit sounds hilarious! I'd love to see it.

There was an episdoe of the late night adult swim cartoon "aqua teen hunger force" when the villain had a magic belt that was activated by Foreigner lyrics. His sidekick keeps using loverboy songs, then eventually opts for "Domo Arigato" to no effect. It seems Mr. Roboto is a favorite of the cartoon network.

OK, I finally got the first season of Magnum PI on dvd, and, although it wasn't the scene Shawn referenced, there was a scene in the episode "J Digger Doyle" (which guest starred Erin Gray) where Styx was mentioned. So can we add this 1980 reference to the list?

I'm on the hunt for season two this weekend!

I was looking for this thread, LOL.

"Cold Case" played very prominently the opening part of "Come Sail Away" in their Oct. 16th* (I believe that is correct date--see below) episode. It was only the Dennis sung part with the piano intro.

There were 4 songs featured (I may have this wrong, but I think that is correct) and "Come Sail Away" was one that was played in the foreground, rather than background, to help move the story along.

Very cool. It took me completely by surprise.

OK, a bit of editing:

The episode was aired Oct. 9th under the title "Bad Night."

Other songs featured were Tom Petty's "American Girl," Aerosmith's "Dream On," and someone said a song by Ambrosia, but was not sure which one.

Did I miss South Park on this list??? LOL "Come Sail Away" :-?

"Mr. Roboto" was used for a promo for the show "Joey" and it even aired during the Golden Globe awards :)

Dennis has numerous offers every week to use his music. He turned down a big one for an Ebay commercial. Ebay wanted to change his lyrics to one of his songs. He mentioned a bunch in my interview, I'll have to watch it again.

Laurie, is your interview available somewhere online? I am interested to hear it.

I hope all is well.

Are we talking about only DDY-written music? If not, then "Renegade" was actually in a Harry Hamlin movie from the late Seventies or early Eighties called 'King of the Mountain'. It was also in the Brad Pitt beer commercial last year.

Three years ago during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, one of the marching bands did "Rockin' The Paradise" on horns while the drill team did high kicks, which was pretty cool actually.

Have we mentioned "This Is the Time" in Karate Kid 2 yet? Plus "The Grand Illusion" in Seigfreid and Roy's 'The Magic Box' IMAX movie.

Tommy Shaw's "What If" was in 'Remo Williams: The Adventure Begns' as the main title music. He also had "Jealousy" in a Japanese TV commercial.

A Dennis song was in the KISS movie 'Detroit Rock City', can't remember which one, maybe CSA?

When I was a little kid in Brooklyn Park, MN, there was a wrestler named Buck "Rock and Roll" Zumhoff. He wresteld with Jesse "The Body" Ventura, who later became Mayor of Brooklyn Park and then Governor of Minnesota. Buck used to enter the ring with a boombox blasting on his shoulder, and he was ALWAYS playing "Rockin' the Paradise". LOL, what a bizarre memory!

As a funny side note to 'Shrek 2', my littlest grand daughter, Kylee, stayed with us recently, and I heard her singing "Mr. Roboto" to herself in the living room, so I ran in there and she was even doing the arm movements! And they know I am a writer, but they don't understand what I really do, so I was wondering where in the world a 4-year-old had learned that song with the arm movements? Not from me. So I said, "You know, Kylee, I'm writing a book about the guy that wrote that song." Her eyes widened, and she exclaimed, "PINNOCCHIO?!" LOL. Now I'm gonna have to come up with a fake Pinnocchio interview to appease her . . .

I hope all is well.

I'm trying to have my brother add a few clips on the website that we're working on. Hopefully this can get done soon. I'm also going to try to have it transcribed, hopefully before 2010, I'm so behind (LOL)

OK, not exactly music per se, but another Styx reference on the latest "Simpson's: Treehouse of Horror" episode. When Homer is served a waffle from the robot boy they "adopt", he says someting to the effect "...very hotto, Mr. Roboto."

OK, perhaps I am reaching too deep here, LOL. There is a Classic Styx fan on the writing team of the Simpsons, I am certain. :P
