Favorite Non-Dennis song

Ron

OK whenever we discuss what our favorite Dennis song is, we usually can't narrow it down and end up with a list of 5-10 songs. But what about songs by other artists? What is your favorite non-Styx song?

How much room ya got on here, Ron? I will have to whittle my list of, oh about 100 or more songs, down to a few.

I will get back on it later! It will be interesting to see what others enjoy.

I will tell you this -- the original version of "I Am the Walrus" is nowhere near my list, nor is that cover band's version either. :P

How much space do you have? I'm thinking it's going to be awfully tough to come up with just 1...5 to 10 would even be pretty hard.

How about we give some categories. Might make this one easier to answer.

Just a thought.

For those of you trying to narrowing down a huge list, here's what I'm looking for:

The first non-Styx/Dennis song that pops into your head when someone asks you for a list of your favorite songs. The song that comes to mind without hesitation.

For me, I would have to say Tom Sawyer by Rush and Friends by Michael W Smith are at the top of my list. My current favorite is "Accidentally In Love" by Counting Crows, from Shrek 2. It's stuck in my head.

Ignoring what Ron wrote completely, I will do some by genres of my own making.

In no particular order.

“I Don’t Want to Live Without You” – Foreigner – Sappy Power Ballad category

“Just Once” – James Ingram (Runner up: “Overjoyed” – Stevie Wonder ) – R & B category

“Live to Tell” – Madonna – Slutty Girl Singer category

“I’ll Be the One” – Backstreet Boys – Boy Band category

“The Chair” – George Strait – Country category

“Thunderstruck” – AC/DC – Hard Rock category

“Headed for a Heartbreak” – Winger – Hair Band category

“Modern Love” – David Bowie – Thin, English White Guy category

“Abbey Road : Here Comes the Sun through Her Majesty” – Beatles category (OK, I know that’s cheating! These songs cannot be separated in my view)

“Diamonds and Rust” – Joan Baez – Folk category

“In My Room” – The Beach Boys – Old 60’s Music category

“Dreaming in Metaphors” – Seal – Smooth jazz category (OK, ok….stretching, I know)

“Tchaikovsky – Fifth Symphony and Rachmaninoff – Fifth Symphony” – Dead European Guy Classical Music category - a tie.

“Rhapsody in Blue” – Gershwin – Modern Classic music (I like many versions but partial to Andre Previn’s recording of it)

“The Christmas Song” – Nat King Cole version – Christmas song

Sorry Ron. A host of songs enters my mind when someone asks me my favorite song. Depends entirely upon the situation. :D

This list could actually be much longer!! :o

:20: I'm so upset I was ignored :20:

Serriously, I don't care. I only suggested that to help narrow those long lists down (myself included).

Here's mine that popped right into my head:

(no particular order)

Behind Blue Eyes - The Who

Rainmaker - Iron Maiden

Diamonds and Rust - Joan Baez

Worth Fighting For - Judas Priest

Arc Of Space - Bruce Dickinson

Bam! - Glen Burtnik

Right now those are songs I'm really into that aren't Styx or Dennis....how's that for spanning the gammet!..LOL

Changes as my mood changes of course, but some tried and true winners for me right now:

The Dance-Garth Brooks

Any Way You Want It-Journey

Long and Winding Road-The Beatles

China Grove-Doobie Brothers

American Pie-Don Mc Lean

It Was a Very Good Year-Frank Sinatra

100 Years-Five for Fighting

La Bamba-Los Lobos version

At Last-(Cyndi Lauper version)

Dancin in the Moonlight-King Harvest

Canon D-Pachelbel

Rhapsody in Blue-Hershey Felder version

Now ask me in another hour...it will surely be different.

OK, I've spent the last week struggling with this question. It actually got a lot easier once I realized that the question was NOT "what is your favorite ROCK song?" but rather "what is your favorite song?"--I just can not come up with a favorite rock song. However, after a lot of thought, I think I finally came up with my all-time favorite song--Schubert's "Ave Maria".

And, Ron, this was entirely tooo much work!
