evileyes
I am so excited about taht 20th Century Masters DVD for Dennis! I cannot wait to see all those videos! I have Boomchild in my car today (Who Shot Daddy? was the track I just heard before I came back into work from lunch, love that one!). So, which album is Call Me off of? He's such an incredible songwriter! Honestly, I really don't think the ballads thing was why Tommy got so upset, I think he just didn't want to have to compromise with anyone and he wanted his own band (this wasn't Dennis who had the control problem, from my perspective it was Tommy!) and he just hooked onto the Babe thing as his mantra to justify his reasoning. Which still makes no sense but that's his problem. Sadly he now has the band Styx which really isn't Styx, it has two former members but that doesn't make it Styx. So, why didn't Dennis fight to keep the name of the band for himself? I know of a lot of bands who go through that, lawsuits, etc. I think they showed that Lonely School video on purpose to totally discredit Tommy's reasons in BTM, it's just so hilarious! I am glad you caught that classic Tommy moment "I wanna ROCK!" And he goes off and makes a sappier ballad (Lonely School) than Dennis ever DREAMED of doing. If you buy the DVD that is coming out on June 28th, you will get Call Me (shown on BTM), Don't Wait for Heroes, Desert Moon and Boomchild. The only other solo video Dennis made was This is the Time, which is shown from time to time on VH1 Classic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Edited May 20, 2005 by evileyes

Call Me is on Back to The World. I highly recommend it. And all I will say is that Dennis did, after much painful deliberating, file a lawsuit. It was settled out of court. There is an an agreement with the members that they cannot discuss publicly it's terms, as well as an anti-defamation clause. Many feel JY has stepped over the lines on this many many times. Tommy has always struck me as one who will go where he feels it will best serve him. He has no problems with ballads per se...however, he would like the majority of his fans to believe he is as hard rocking as they come. Which he is. I have always been amazed at the level this particular band went to to distance itself from one of it's greatest aspects...namely, it's diversity. You had everything from ballads, to rock, to hard rock, to all manner of different styles. That they could do ballads as well as they did should have been viewed as an asset. But hey, they made their decision. There are so many comments I'd love to make about BTM...but it's 5 years later and it would change nothing. Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime We'll take the best, forget the rest... good words to remember right about now Liz
evileyes
Back to the World......ok, badk to ebay I go. Thanks for the tip Liz! And thanks for going back over old territory for the sake of a newbie like me. In the end it doesn't really matter about what happens behind the scenes, as long as there is great music for us, the fans, to enjoy. I completely agree with your point, Styx's musical diversity was such a strength, not a weakness! Call Me is on Back to The World. I highly recommend it. Gravity
[ quote=evileyes,May 20 2005, 12:18 PM] came off quite well in the show, the one who didn't come off well at all to me in the show was JY. To me he came off as callous, cold and basically, a jerk. Yeah, Lisa. It was JY who disappointed me the most in this show. I expected the nastiness from Tommy as I had heard about it before, but I didn't expect it from JY for some reason and I was really angered by it. JY has continued to disappoint me on a regular basis ever since. I don't suppose he cares, but I'd sure like to tell him sometime! Oh and the other Tommy line? "When Dennis returned to the band [after we fired him the first time] I sensed an ANGER in him." Well, DUH, Tommy!!!!!
