90s material question

So i have been listening to some of the hunchback stuff on spotify, and was wondering if while theres still time and paradise were meant to be either Edge of the Century 2 stuff or solo stuff, because they sound more like that type of stuff than the other stuff for the musical, and maybe he just used them instead for the musical because they fit. (and yes i realize those were the 2 songs released by styx as well, which made me think of this question)

I do not know if either were originally meant for the follow up to Edge (I think Glen Burtnik called it Son of Edge). While There Still Time was on an A & M sampler that was put out (and recalled) after Edge, and before Hunchback. It was later released on Brave New World. Paradise is on Return to Paradise. Also, Beneath the Moon (or a version of it) is on Hunchback, and his solo release Boomchild.

Both were originally intended to be on 'Edge 2'. When that failed to happen, I would guess that Dennis used them for Hunchback not only because they would fit, but because it gave exposure to two really good songs that he thought (at the time) may go unreleased and unheard.

I gotta add to this remembering the first time I heard Dennis' solo demo of Hunchback and how blown away I was by the incredible music he wrote and how amazingly he sang it. His voice, to me, has never shown greater range. Dawn-Marie was such a wonderful partner on this recording as well.

 

It is too bad it did not get a big production, but so many factors worked against it. He is in good company regarding this. Getting something from working production to full-blown Broadway experience is a huge undertaking and many, many worthy productions never see the light of day. (Or the lights of Broadway, that's for sure.)

 

The Chicago production was simply wonderful for the small venue where it played, and it well deserved the award it got.
