Acoustic DVD in the works

From Dennis' website:

We are working on the logistics for a concert DVD of the acoustic show which would contain all your favorites, and I mean all your favorites unless one of them is Jonas Psalter. In addition we will not follow in the footsteps of the Oscar winning "The Artist" but rather film it in color and in stereo although I will be having a Jack Russell Terrier miming my entire performance. We are hoping for a guest shot on Animal Planet. (No we're not) We are in discussion with two different broadcasters for airings.

The rock shows have been going really good, so I think they are playing a waiting game for right now. They would have to promote an acoustic show with acoustic shows, but the demand for them just isn't there when almost every rock show is almost sold out.

I see what you are saying. But wouldn't they have to set up some kind of special event to do this recording? Like they did for his orchestral show?

Doing the recording isn't the concern, it's the promotion and marketing afterwards to sell the product. Since the main vehicle for promotion and marketing are concerts themselves, they would need tour dates that were acoustic performances. Then a lot of people would buy a DVD of something that they just saw. There would be less sales for an acoustic DVD if every concert was a rock show. And if someone is going to invest money in producing a DVD, you want to release it for maximum sales.

So in a sense this is a shelved project that most likely not see the light of day. If that's the case I think he should do a DVD of the rock show instead. If that is the formula I don't see how DDY would think an acoustic DVD releae would work since they never were as frequent as the other shows.

Problem with a rock show DVD: How many DVD's already exist of the same songs? An acoustic DVD would at least be unique. There may be other reasons why the project is on a temporary hold, but the reason I have stated above is the "official" public answer (because that is what I was told when I asked about it).

Personally I would doubt that they would mention a project if it was real early in its planning stage, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the actual reason. I know artists that have albums "in the can" but will not release them because they are busy with other projects (which support them financially) to be able to properly promote their new release.

Well I guess will have to wait till somethig is said. I really wish artists would not mention something is being planned and then seem to never say anything about it again. It would be best for them to wait until things are more "set in stone". In other words don't peak your fan base's intrest and then never deliver or go dead air on the subject. The acoustic DVD idea is a great idea in my opinion and from the acoustic sets on YouTube it seems it would be as well. It's definately something different that I don't think his former bandmates would do with their version of Styx. It's also something Styx has never done.
