Miller Posted January 4, 2012 Report Share Posted January 4, 2012 I just got the Edge of the Century songbook, and while going through it, Not Dead Yet, is copyrighted 1986, and with words and music by Ralph Covert, i was wondering if anyone knew why they put someone elses song on their album, besides Styx 1, Dennis wrote everything he sang himself, well, for Styx anyway (unless im mistaken) and wrote pretty much everything during his solo career as well. So i guess what im asking, is does anyone know why they did this for this album? Or know anything about the history of the song and such. I didn't know about this connection to JY, Boom. I think Not Dead was included to quash those persistent characterizations that Dennis was "too Broadway" and "could not rock." That song, and how he sang it, I think dropped a bucket of bricks on that stupid idea. Many people forget that DDY has one of the strongest rock voices in the business, then and now. I am really, really getting tired of this garbage. JY wasn't even a founder... Dennis and the Ponozzo boys were... idc what the name was changed to while he was in the band... He was a hired hand that got lucky when Dennis wrote Lady... Musical chairs JY...you sat your fat @#$ down at the right time... Unfortunately, Dennis seems to be powerless to fight this revisionist history. Just more layers of crap laid on by the current lineup in general and JY in particular. I am pretty sure that they (JY, TS, CP) had Dennis give up control of anytning that he personally didn't own the rights to. So yeah, they can do just about anything that floats their boat.
