evileyes
I have to say, I get a laugh out of reading the fan reviews on Amazon. People sure say what they feel and it's a hoot to read them. Here's my favorite one, I'm trying not to laugh out loud at work. Beyond Horrible!!, May 12, 2005 Reviewer: Misty K "crittermom03" (Rogers City, MI) - See all my reviews I wish there was a lower score option for this album!!This is the greatest disappointment in music that I have come across in my life!! My husband and I are HUGE Styx fans, and I was sure to run to the store the day of release to pick up their latest. I have to say, I was leery, as the band had been doing either the umpteenth re-re-re-release of their oldies, or hit-and-miss new material (What's up with the carrot in Cyclorama?) but I thought- "It's Styx! I gotta have it!!" I wish I could go to the store and demand my money back. They sound like a second-rate bar band, doing covers of tunes that are so overplayed anyway that I feel like I'm listening to a car/ beer/ cell phone commercial. Good tunes in their day, yes, but not good enough to be redone. Especially not a whole fricking album of them. As my husband said "They even ruined their own song!" I think Lawrence Gowan is an admirable replacement for Dennis DeYoung- don't get me wrong, but maybe Dennis really was the brains of the outfit. And trust me, I never would have said that 2 days ago. DO NOT waste your time or money on this piece of junk. If you want it, come by my house and you can pick it out of my trash can.

You're right, sometimes those reviews seem like they were written by standup comics! Not that I really pay attention to them, musical tastes run so very different that I can't really take another's word for whether I'll like something or not. Terri <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I find reviews of music far too subjective for me. Music evokes some sort of emotional response. And in a case where there is infighting amongst the band members and, more importantly, it's fan base...well reviews quite often become...slanted shall we say. Absolutely Terri...Misty needs to learn how to express those feelings....what would happen if she kept them bottled up Liz
