Please share any thoughts or memories from the past year, including concert experiences, etc. I know it's been a relatively quiet year here at Talk, and I am mainly responsible for that as I have not had the time available to devote to the site. But that doesn't mean it wasn't an exciting year Okay, I'll bite. I'm probably going to get in trouble for this but I MISS TOMMY DZIALLO!! I miss his phrasing, his tone, his cute butt, and most of all, his precision with the notes, all while making it look easy. I miss Hank too, his smooth-as-whiskey voice, his cool as a cucumber demeanor, his hats and his Mr. Roboto glasses. Yes, I understand why they had to do what they did, it doesn't mean I can't miss 'em. I finally got to see the new band configuration in some God forsaken place in Eastern Quebec and I was pleasantly surprised at some of the new additions to the music such as interesting lead ins from Dennis. The stage is certainly more lively and lots of fun (and easy on the eyes but it was before) but I won't say it's better, just different. My review of the show is somewhere on this board. Dennis, however, transformed my boyfriend into a fan, of course! Next concert for us, New Brunswick, New Jersey in March. Hoping I can remedy that and catch the new band he has put together. The only DDY style concert I have not seen is the acoustic one and it appears he does those from time-to-time, so it would be nice to get to one of those. Jasedontlie Posted December 26, 2010 Report Share Posted December 26, 2010 Closest I have that is Dennis related is I saw 101 Dalmatians when it came to town, and I was able to get the Purina CD with Dennis singing most of the songs. I guess if Dennis ever makes down to the Georgia / Alabama / Tennessee / Mississippi area I'll get to see him. Until that day - I'll just keep my ipod a pumpin out good music! Ron Posted December 29, 2010 Author Report Share Posted December 29, 2010 I saw the show three times this year, and all three shows were within 100 miles of my home. I don't even think there were three shows in the Chicago area in 2010. I am truly blessed to be in an area where his concerts do well. All three were with the new band. The first one was (I think) only the third show they performed together. By the time I got to see them in the fall, they were like a well oiled machine. While I miss Tommy and Hank, the band now looks and sounds like a single entity. The one thing I am disappointed with the new show, is that now it is just a "greatest hits" show. No new material, no deeper cuts. I understand the reasoning for this: The hits put people in the seats, B-sides don't. But even still as a fan that likes the deeper songs as well as the hits, it's something I miss. I also got to see 101 Dalmatians in New York, in what ended up being the show's final weekend. Dennis' music was truly enjoyable, and I wish the show could have seen greater success. I wish a recording of the music could have been released, so more could enjoy the music. On a sad note, I wish to express my condolences on the loss of Dennis' brother-in-law and close friend Chuck Lofrano, who passed away this year. Chuck was a fan of this site, and had expressed to me on many occasions his appreciation of what I had done to help support Dennis. I am thankful for the conversations that we had via email, and for being able to meet him at the Hunchback premiere in 2008. What can be in store for 2011? We shall soon find out... Chicago Guy Posted December 29, 2010 Report Share Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) I agree Ron on not hearing any newer songs and deep cuts , I really enjoy 100 Hundred Years From Now .
