Ron
It seems some of you like to pick on me for taking my good old time in posting a show review. But since these people usually cannot tell who someone is when they call them on the phone, I will still take my time. BUT, I will say this: The band is improved, and "tighter" then they were when I saw them a mere two and a half months ago Show Me The Way (full band version) is now in the set list, sounding magnificent Don't Let It End was performed acoustically. It was a nice touch Little Fugue in "G" from Styx II was used as a prelude to Blue Collar Man. It works, so I hope Dennis keeps it. I always felt that Too Much Time On My Hands was sort of a wimpy song. Not anymore. Best version I EVER heard of that song Here's the big point concerning the new shows: IF Dennis had the legal use of his former band's name, and could tour as Styx, he would be able to do several things in the process: Improve the brand name 'Styx' and raise it up from the watered-down state it currently is in Get hired for more shows, and be able to play at larger venues for (hopefully) more money I only ever saw 'Styx' in 1991 and in 1996. What I saw tonight was as good, AND PROBABLY BETTER than those shows There is no way for me to describe the energy on stage. The entire band is full of life It was really a great, enjoyable evening. ladybugking
Not pushing you here, but I am happy to see the review so quickly!! What sounds soooo cool is Dennis is tweaking with the songs, the intros, what he puts into a setlist and takes out show-to-show. It opens up so much for this group to do with their concerts and keeps it fresh. I am guessing the energy comes from everyone having such a good time with all of this. Gotta get me to one of these sometime. Edited May 8, 2010 by ladybugking
ddyfan1
Great show. Dennis looked and sounded fantastic as always. I must admit, though, having seen quite a few of Dennis' shows over the past several years, it was a little jarring to hear the Tommy songs. Well, perhaps "jarring" is too strong a word..... In any case, I did enjoy them, but it still felt a little strange. August and Jimmy had totally ROCKIN' lead solos in Rockin' The Paradise. I also enjoyed the full band version of Show Me The Way. While I appreciate the talent and effort that goes into the acapella version, I've always been partial to the full album version. Setlist: Intro (The Message) The Grand Illusion Lady Lorelei Little Fugue in G > Blue Collar Man Desert Moon Light Up Mr. Roboto Show Me The Way (electric) Don't Let It End (acoustic) Too Much Time On My Hands Rockin' The Paradise Babe Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man) Suite Madame Blue The Best of Times Renegade Come Sail Away Outro (The Grand Finale) Dian

But since these people usually cannot tell who someone is when they call them on the phone, I will still take my time. And I will *still* pick on you no matter whether I recognize your voice on the phone or not!! LOL! What took you so long? You have a life or something???? Just kidding. Just so everyone knows, when Ron so kindly called me from this show, I thought he was some other guy. :-( Apparently, male egos don't take to that sort of thing very well .... I was so tired I wouldn't have recognized my own grandmother's voice. Glad you had fun Ron. I promise to call you from the Quebec shows just so you can call me by some other girl's name. MTLfan just prefers bald guys more and that is why she thought Ron was me. It took quite a bit of convincing her that it wasn't me. All in good fun and Ron is such a good sport! The show totally ROCKED!

Jill
I was at this show, and it was the best I've seen of Dennis' band in years! It helped to have 2nd row, dead center seats... The band sounded great-August did a top-notch job on the TS songs. Of course, the new bassist was excellent, and Jimmy was his awesome self. My only regret? Not being able to catch up with the band after the show. Next time.
