Foreigner, Kiss , REO , Journey, Eagles etc can produce new music ....... I say the H--L with Styx . Why pay to see some old wash up long haired 10 song playing rejects . Ringo's almost 70 and he's putting out a new cd in Jan. 2010.............. Ronnie James Dio is almost 70 putting out new music. What is wrong ! Styx owes thier fans a new CD of New music ! ladybugking
putting out a new cd The operative word here is "CD". When you don't have a record label, it is hard to put out a new CD. Not impossible, but much easier if you do. I think there have been numerous hints from the Styx camp that they no longer have a label to release new music. They have never come out and said this outright, but, one would think if there were still a label, they might be working on some new music to make the label happy? I may be wrong but .... just sayin'.
Chicago Guy
Journey doesn't have a label ? Eagles don't a record label? Kiss realeased sonic boom on their own also through walmart of course.

Based on the few comments I have seen\heard from JY, the band has little interest in releasing a new album. There just is not a market large enough for it and also you have to face the fact that they are missing a key member from the band. While that may not be a big deal to some fans, I think that it is to music companies. The best their fans can expect is the same old act with maybe a new song here and there. They are going to stick with what gets them the most money and at this point its the shows.

Kiss realeased sonic boom on their own also through walmart of course. In that case didn't Walmart act as the label? Not sure about that. If that is indeed the case and none of those groups have a studio label to produce their music, then Styx (and their management) would have to find a way to get an entire album out there that would generate interest and sales, as did those other groups. Apparently, that is not going on with them right now. The best their fans can expect is the same old act with maybe a new song here and there. They are going to stick with what gets them the most money and at this point its the shows. Exactly.

ladybugking
Distributors prefer to work with bands that can show they've had radio play and success in selling their CDs at live shows or online through their own Web site or sites such as iTunes, cdbaby.com or MySpace.com. And they'll want to know that you have a promotional campaign. So in addition to sending the one sheet and a sample CD to the distributor, include data about your group's radio play, promotions and CD sales Aye. There is the rub, perhaps, for current Styx. At least since DDY was booted from the group. And, apparently, Dennis got a deal with the Canadian label, DEP, from the strength of his independent sales, maybe? Which, then, got him the deal, after he did well in Canada, with Rounder. It will end there for him, I fear. Anyway. I suppose it seems that Styx has not been able to interest any of these distributors in any new music from them. Neither Cyclorama nor Big Bang set the world on fire. It is interesting that a group like Journey, without its original lead singer, was able to score their distribution deal with Walmart. But Journey music is all over everything right now, so that made sense and the most recent album/DVD sold very well. Other groups, like the Eagles, have their original band members (or close to it), and Kiss still has the prominent frontmen. Really interesting article, CG!! I enjoyed reading it very much and it really explained a lot.

For me, it's pretty easy to see why they have no new music. Their main source of talent is GONE. So to Styx....I say....Boo-hoo.....
