MartMurphy
Long time lurker, first time poster (somewhat reluctantly). In all the times I've seen Dennis -- with the band or orchestra, live or on video -- he's never faltered fronting a committed and select group of musicians. No one can deny Dennis' genius, but at times Saturday night the band sounded like a mediocre STYX cover act (albeit with a great singer). I can't put my finger on what was amiss. There was a tentativeness that diminished the show's caliber and a couple of times it appeared that Dennis flashed a surprised look, revealing that he was aware of shortcomings on stage. I was surprised too, never expecting this from an artist who's career has been distinguished by always setting the bar higher and higher. After so many tremendous shows, maybe I'm just spoiled. I'm grateful that with all Dennis has on his plate he came out to support Kids Fight Cancer. That in itself made for a worthwhile night. - Marty

I've seen many great shows with Dennis and his band but one in particular (in Halifax) was not up to their regular standards because of problems with their stage monitors. It happens on occasion, sometimes because of reasons that are beyond the musicians' control. We know that they're perfectly capable of better and you can bet they were all upset and disappointed with the show as well. ladybugking
It could have been as you mentioned, all that is on his plate, and his taking time out to perform for this event. No way to really know, though.

There were a few times where I noticed he couldnt hear himself, once the Bass guitar was too loud, and during Come Sail Away his keyboards were turned off. I think part of it was due to it being a small set and part of a much larger venue being run by uncoordinated people. I was in the VIP section, so I was right up at the stage, Dennis liked my Roboto shirt too. Chubby Bald dude in a blue shirt flashing Dennis, yep that was me, and got a thumbs up for it too from him. I really think he was there just for supporting the charity and not to be the star of the thing, overall it was a fun night and that's what counts. OTOH, if you are going to tell people who purchased VIP passes that you can get your picture taken with Dennis, and find out that only those that donated $10,000 are able to, you really p1$$3d a few people off. I still got to have a nice chat with Suzanne, and got a few thumbs up from Dennis. One of he guys at my table brought his albums to get signed and he was steamed to find out we couldnt get to meet him, but he was able to after the VIP thing, he just asked Dennis as he left the room and Dennis obliged. If you noticed Dennis holding the Kilroy album during Mr Roboto, that was one of them. Funny, when I talked to Suzanne, she remembered me from when I met them at the Hunchback show, not right away, but when I mentioned my name, and that she replied to a few of my emails, it clicked. They are off to do the 101 Dalmatians show, so there wont be any updates on their site for a while. Hopefully they will post some of the pictures I took of the show that I will be sending them. Great pictures! Post a few here in the Gallery if you are of a mind. Would love to see them.
