Ron Posted October 9, 2008 Report Share Posted October 9, 2008 If any of you use iTunes to manage your music files / iPod DO NOT upgrade to iTunes 8 unless you want to risk screwing up your music library. I have over 6500 songs, 700 albums, and 400 videos in my library. I lost over 100 album art covers, and many (most) of my .mp3 files now no longer play on my iPod or in iTunes, but play fine on other players. It also wiped out a lot of my "Metadata" on many non-album files. I am now on my second day of rebuilding my library in another program, then will uninstall iTunes and reinstall an older version, then transfer the library. Hopefully I will get all of my songs and not miss any (when the library gets that big it gets a little hard to manage). I am very detailed with my library, having cover art on 99.9% of my albums. What a waste of time. Thanks for the tip Ron. I'll avoid iTunes8 until they get it fixed. I actually have two sets of music libraries and I have iTunes set to manual update but that doesn't always protect the files from corrupt software. ladybugking Posted October 10, 2008 Report Share Posted October 10, 2008 YIKES! :-O I had thought about doing it on my older PC, but thanks for the head's up. I did update my newer laptop with 8, but only because my really old version of iTunes will not let me download some songs/albums. However, I have no music stored on the laptop. When I DID upgrade, my burner did not work and I spent some headache-inducing time trying to find a solution, which I eventually did with a firmware upgrade of my DVD burner.
