The beginning of part 2 could be very disturbing.

I am not sure I want to go through the trouble to listen to this jerk. Anyone have a brief summary???? On second thought, maybe not.

I listened to it, reluctantly. My curiosity got the best of me.

It may be a bit of a "gray area", but I thought if you agreed to settle a lawsuit out of court, and part of that agreement was that no details of the agreement were to be released, why mention items in a podcast that could be interpreted as something that was in that agreement. While there are no exact figures, an item was mentioned so it is now known that this item was included in the settlement. That (to me) sounds like someone is not keeping to the terms of the agreement. Add in all of the non-disparity violations that have accumulated over the years, and it looks like someone is not doing what they are supposed to be doing.

 

JY is a smart guy, but I don't know if it's his emotions or ego that are getting the best of him whenever discussions go down this road. If he would just say that he has no desire to work with Dennis anymore and can't stand to be in the same room with him and leave it at that, I could as least respect him.

 

I'm not going to say what JY mentioned in the podcast, only because I do not wish to implicate myself in any fashion. While these statements (and others) given may be in violation of an agreement, I personally believe that the best thing for Dennis to do is to keep doing what he has been: answer questions that come up concerning those matters in a polite manner, without any trash talk. I also think that any legal action should be avoided unless these remarks are creating an atmosphere that impedes Dennis' income (ie Promoters believing this crap and not wanting to hire Dennis)

This disparaging of Dennis by JY has been going on for a long time. Apparently Dennis chooses not to go down that road by getting any legal action moving on it, though it often clearly violates what I understood of the agreement. I think he feels he has moved on and he (Dennis) has certainly played the admirable role in all of this.

 

We already know Dennis has had problems on the other side of that two-way street (or is it just one way?), wherein even a semblance of labeling himself and his performances by anything other than the agreed upon designation (Former Singer of, Formerly of Styx, etc.), gets him in hot water with The Reluctant Legend and his legal team.

 

I really don't think I can bring myself to listen to this interview, but it sounds like JY and His Ego are feeling very cocky and sure of themselves, once again.

 

What is so amazing to me is, other than touring and singing the same songs over and over, The Traveling Band Calling Themselves Styx has absolutely NOTHING original or even interesting as a claim to any sort of fame post 1999.

 

Being an opening act to someone else's crowds is nothing to brag about in my book.

In a manner of speaking, it seems JY has taken on his Dr. Righteous persona beyond just a charicature. Sometimes I think the man feels his legacy is to trash Dennis whenever he gets a chance and continue telling the "Dr. Righteous" version of what happened as much as, if not more than, he SHOULD represent his legacy with Styx and its music. I have written and poked fun of JY alot on here. I know that. In all seriousness though, do you guys think he continues to speak about what happened and spin his version because he believes that might be the only thing keeping him relevent? Like was said above, Styx hasn't produced anything of real substance in a while and is basically an opening act for other bands. Do you think JY just gets interviews now because he is willing to dish dirt and say things people might see as controversial?

 

If not for the falling out Styx had with Dennis, what else would anyone really want to talk to JY about? Also, why doesn't Tommy Shaw talk about that situation more? JY always seems to represent that he and Tommy threw DDY out together, so why, if Shaw was JY's partner in all that, doesn't Shaw echo the same sentiments? Also, Chuck wrote a book and had press interviews for it. He talked about Styx alot, but did he ever go into the situation with Dennis in his interviews? I missed it if he did. I guess what I am saying is there seems to only be one member of Styx continuing to stay on that page of beating the dead horse over and over about the DDY/Styx issue. Maybe I am wrong and I know you guys will tell me if I am.

 

I've had two major "falling outs" with people I was close to professionally in my life. Even when it would have been in both parties best interest to trash the other side, after the initial anger subsided, we both moved on and to this day don't re-hash it. Why? Because we have lives! We have other professional interests and have neither the time or the inclination to waste our breath on something that can't be undone now. The past is place to visit occassionally, not a place to live in. It's almost like, for as much as JY wants to act like he has moved on and is better off, JY needs Dennis to justify himself and keep him relevent. It seems to me the BEST thing that ever happened to JY is the DDY fiasco. Not because he gets to be the leader of a band now, but because he gets to finally have something that defines him. His shining moment apparently has not been his music or his songs or his success, but the fact he got to stick it to DDY and can talk about it (apparently beyond the scope of confidentiality) whenever someone will give him a forum. To me it solidifies JY's inherent jealousy of Dennis past and present.
