I'm up to my eyebrows in getting my son ready for school, but I'll post tomorrow about the show as soon as I have a few minutes.

In the meantime, I've posted for you on YouTube my video of all but the first few notes of Desert Moon and I'm presently uploading the first 7:35 minutes of Suite Madam Blue (including Prelude 12) - my memory card filled up before the song was over! Rats!

to Desert Moon,

to SMB but it is still processing as I type this but may be available by the time you all read this.

I'll upload both videos to the Downloads section on this site tomorrow. I still get a kick out of uploading in the downloads section ... LOL!

Enjoy!

Thanks Amanda! I hope you had a blast. Hope the crowd was good for their "favorite" entertainer.

His voice sounds really good on DM.

Looking forward to the detailed review!

Wow, that was a fast reply, Kathy! I guess Texans really ARE a fast draw! LOL!

Well I too cannot wait to hear about the show. I hope that you did not miss me since I was not able to go with you. Perhaps you can email me later with some details like who sang 100 years from now....

She's probably still swooning over seeing Tommy. I'm sure we'll get a good review once her head comes back to Earth

Wisenheimer! It's nice to know I'm loved by my fellow DDYTalk-mates - I happen to know boys only tease the girls they like, LOL!

I was actually busy last night uploading my three videos and pics to this board. Yeah, yeah, most of them are of Tommy but I've got a couple of Dennis, honest!! I actually noticed that an older pic that I put up of Jimmy in my album made it's way to his MySpace Page. It was one of those lucky shots - I was the right place at the right time - its a good shot of him.

Anyway, I'm at work so I'm only allowed 10 minutes at a time on non-work sites so I'll have to write and save and then come back so depending on when you read this you may only see half of my review.

I drove up to Gatineau and met up with Gatfan and Alain (who just joined the board a couple of days ago). They had kindly invited me to stay at their house after the concert so I wouldn't have to drive the 2 hours back to Montreal after the concert. It was great seeing them again and I can't thank them enough. They are the nicest people you'll ever meet and the cutest couple!!! Their two cats weren't so happy to have me around but that was probably because I took over their favorite bed LOL!

Anyway, we got there at around 6:30 p.m. and we were able to get a space right in front on Dennis' side of the stage. On Tommy and Jimmy's side, the first 10 feet or so was reserved for handicapped individuals which is, of course, the right thing to do. So there we were on Dennis' side.

There was only one issue with the sound, being with Dennis' microphone. That was fixed in short order. I seem to remember the same issue in Halifax last year.

Other than that, the show was tight and they delivered their usual whammy. Dennis' voice is definately back from his laryngitis in June. Since everyone on this board has probably been to a DDY show before, I'll outline what was different. Before I left Gatineau, I asked Alain and Gatfan to go over with me what was different about the show so I wouldn't forget anything, but since I know they will both be reading this (hi guys!!) if I forget something they can add. :-)

The stage for the festival had a catwalk into the audience. During "Babe" (I think) Dennis actually walked down to the end and sat on the steps for a few minutes. I grabbed Alain's camera and took a picture because I had a better vantage point than he did. Dennis' roadie was crouching down on the stage behind the monitors feeding the microphone cord so it wouldn't snag. From what I saw before, during and after the show, their roadies are a pretty darned efficient bunch.

Show Me the Way was back on the setlist. Someone here mentioned earlier that it had been removed.

The 100 Years from Now duet (pay attention Markir!!) was done with Jean Ravel again. He was the same guy that joined Dennis back in June in Trois Rivieres. He wasn't as good as he was last June but he's just finished a 3 month run at the Montreal Casino. Jimmy was doing the lead that is tradionally done by Stephane Dufour.

The most notable thing is that EVERYONE in the band seemed to be in an extremely good mood!! I don't know what they all had for dinner, but wow! You can see what I mean by the pic of Dennis and Tommy that I put up where both of them are smiling. Tommy is usually the stoic one and it's unusual to see him smiling. I didn't get many pictures this time because nobody would stand still long enough. I've never seen so much action on stage at one show.

The MC announced that we were 60,000 strong that night, but I'm not sure if it was the tally for the day or for the concert itself. Doesn't matter - it was a great crowd! There were about 6 cameras offering different vantage points for those waaaaay in the back watching the two screens on either side of the stage. The whole band was smiling and showing off for the audience and the cameras.

Dennis was in great form. I thought of Ladybugking when I first saw him because he was wearing his grandpa jeans again, LOL! He had on a black shirt with black vest and tie. He was all over the place!

Tommy was on top of his game and kept coming over to center stage more than I've ever seen him do before. I told Alain and Gatfan it was because he saw that his biggest Canadian fan was on the other side, LOL! (Yeah right). At one point, he was doing figure eights at center stage! I'm not sure whether he thought he was Glen Burtnik or was just impatient to get back home to Mrs. Dziallo, LOL! He tripped on his guitar cord once during the pacing and I saw him clearly say something I can't print here, laughed, and kept playing. He also sang more backup than I've seen him do before.

Kyle, not to be outdone, was throwing his drumsticks in the air during one of his outtros. I only saw one stick go up, but Alain, Gatfan and I got to speak to Kyle after the show thanks to the lady who runs his website, and he told us that he had actually thrown up three when I asked him about it. I also asked him if he was worried what would happen if he missed catching one and he said yes, it's always a concern, LOL! He's quite a nice guy. He mentioned that he very much likes his "Jersey Boys" gig that he's doing at the moment.

Hank was mostly in the background, but he'd pop up now and then in between the guitars to add his thing. He walked on the catwalk at the beginning and end of Castle Walls and Jimmy ran down and back up once in between. John was doing his usual mad keyboardist finger flying thing next to Kyle. It's really cool to see his fingers fly on the screen.

I think that's it. If I remember anything else, I'll add it in!

Merci!

P.S. Oh yeah, I bought my 11 year old son a Roboto shirt. He loved it but incredibly, it's too big! He'll grow into it, just give him five minutes ...

----------------

I just remembered something else! Jimmy and Tommy did a type of "guitar duel" during "Rockin' The Paradise" (I think) and Tommy played guitar behind his head to try and one-up Jimmy! I haven't seen him do that since 2006. Apparently he's picked it up again lately.

Thanks, Amanda! "Grandpa jeans" LOL. I am guessing they are tres comfortable! ;)

I love the idea of a catwalk! Very cool indeed.

That 60,000 figure sounds awfully big, but even if he drew 1/3 of them to his concert, that would still be a really huge number! He truly is extremely popular in Canada. I am sure that big crowd has GOT to energize any band.

Good for them!

Thanks for the review. One of these days, when my life gets less complicated again, I will catch another band only DDY show.

Off to take a look at your pictures and the videos.

Yes exactly. Loose and comfy. I thought it was you that had commented on his grandpa jeans once. Maybe it was someone else ....

Hi Amanda.

Great review. Yes in fact it was a nice concert and the sound was good considering the show was outdoors. Kyle quoted 45,000 fans while local newspapers are quoting 60,000. One thing is sure: the crowd enjoyed it. It appears as though this was the show that attracted the greatest number of people during the festival. Congratulations to Dennis, the band members and the management. Dennis held the famous "Suite Madam Blue" note for 27 seconds. Is that a record? You probably know!

Nope, not a record. He holds it for 37 seconds in the double CD. (The seconds of a song count off in my car CD player and there's nothing else to do when driving on boring highways on the way home to Nova Scotia!). LOL!
