mendelstyx
I had a wonderful time at the show. Dennis and his band were in great form. The crowd was extremely enthusiastic. They sang along to every song. Dennis was enjoying himself tremendously. It was such a thrill to hear Queen of Spades, Borrowed Time, Pieces of Eight, and Best Thing. Each song brought even larger crowd reaction. And Unfinished Song was really touching because Chuck Lofrano was there and got to see his song performed live for the first time. Dennis played some or all of the keys on every song, though John Blasucci still does the majority of the key work, and does it very well I might add. There were so many additional guitar solos By Tommy Dziallo and Hank Horton. It was great to see several from the group at the show. And we got 2 encores, with the second being some great Jerry Lee Lewis material. Others here will have more to add. I hope he adds more dates to the Lost Treasures portion of his tour. It was a wonderful experience for me. Happy Easter, Mendelstyx
Gravity
Hi! This is the first time I've posted on this forum. I've been away for a while, but it feels good to be back! I was at the show as well and was so impressed! Dennis blew me away and it was such a joy to be part of such an enthusiastic crowd! I was very glad that I had flown from Atlanta to see this show! I highly recommend it! Marianne
ladybugking
Hey, Marianne! GREAT name choice, LOL! Thanks Mendelstyx for the review. Well, I was there too. Met up with the usual suspects and we had, to put it simply, a blast. HOB is a great venue for a rock show. And this was a ROCK show! You gotta wear the comfortable shoes though. Lot of standing going on. I was right at the stage and my partner in crime (a guy who needs to join this board, BTW) we just rocked out all night. Pounded the stage in time to the music. In fact, I am sure we helped out Kyle there some....ok, not. Coupla of times I had to move back or I would have been stepped on by one Mr. DeYoung. Yep. THAT close! The show flat-out rocked. It was a wonderful walk down memory lane with those terrific songs. And Dennis was VERY on. Energized by the audience feedback. There was not a song he sang that everyone was not singing with him word-for-word. My favorites were...well, everything. I really enjoyed the new "sound" to Borrowed Time. Such a pleasure! Pieces of Eight in concert is worth a trip completely across the country to hear. What blew me nearly out of the House of Blues and onto the Chicago streets was Best Thing. Oh my!!! And Queen of Spades. I mean...QUEEN OF SPADES??? Can you imagine??? It was .....no words to describe. And he hit THE NOTE. You all know the one. Whoo! I truly do not think I have had a better time at any concert and that is saying a lot because Milwaukee was unbelievable and New York was off the hook. This one was special though. I really hope he gets out there and does this one everywhere for all to enjoy. I am glad to be back on board. Thanks, Ron. Hi to all. mrstromboli
Hey, Marianne! GREAT name choice, LOL! Thanks Mendelstyx for the review. HOB is a great venue for a rock show. And this was a ROCK show! You gotta wear the comfortable shoes though. Lot of standing going on. I took my shoes off and enjoyed the show and the view from 2 1/2 inches lower. <G> I hope Dennis can add some more Wooden Nickel songs to his Lost Treasures sets... Evil Eyes ( I know, wishful thinking) and Earl of Roseland come to mind. Shawn
ladybugking
Well hello "Mrstromboli" aka Shawn. Yeah. I was gonna ask you about the shoes, LOL. I had worn these NB running shoes in NY and my feet never got tired (no plug for New Balance!). I figured those would be the ones for this type of venue. I was not wrong. I was ready for another 2 1/2 hours on my feet!!! I really enjoyed how close you can be to the action in a setting like that. And the shared joy with the audience (and the artist onstage) was beyond description! Dennis. please do more of these kinds of shows! SuiteMadameBlue
I've seen Dennis solo about 10 times. This by far was one of the best shows that I've seen and all of them were GREAT!! I wore my comfortable shoes, but my feet were still sore from all that standing, but worth it. Kathy, I'm hoping your "partner in crime" will join the board. He's out of town for now and he's totally a die-hard Dennis fan. The second encore wasn't planned at all and it was fun to watch them discussing which songs to do, that was a REAL treat. I always thought the song "Best Thing" was just okay. BUT, when I heard it live, I thought was WOW!! I hope it's added to the set list for future dates. It was beyond perfect especially with Dennis & Hank singing the parts. "Unfinished Song" of course was very emotional to hear live. I looked forward to hearing it live some day. I always thought it was a dream, but that dream came true on Saturday night. It was wonderful to see Chuck L. up in the balcony, that really was emotional. "Pieces of Eight" - another WOW!! This song has to stay in the set list. It's a "must hear" especially with the orchestra!! "Queen of Spades", was a real treat to hear, especially since I've been playing it up for a week straight before the concert!! "Borrowed Time", yes he kept the "yes & no's" in the song and I'm so glad he did. It really does make the song. I like this live version "Suite Madame Blue" and "Castle Walls" are still my favorite to hear live, just unbelievable!! I had a GREAT night and I'm glad that I was able to spend it with a lot of great friends and friends from the message boards. Here is the set list, if it wasn't posted already: Grand Illusion Lady Best Thing Desert Moon Lorelie Pieces of 8 Show Me The Way Castle Walls Mr Roboto Dont' Let It End Rockin The Paradise Queen of Spades Light Up UnFinished Song Suite Madame Blue Borrowed Time Babe Best of Times Come sail Away Whole Lotta Shakin Going On Great Balls of Fire
Gravity
"Borrowed Time", yes he kept the "yes & no's" in the song and I'm so glad he did. It really does make the song. I like this live version Hi! I really liked "Borrowed Time", too! It was fun to hear it live and as a blues shuffle. And the "Yes, Nos!" was a highlight! I have to say my Easy Spirits failed me. They are good for walking, but not for standing. I was fine during the concert because I had my mind on other things, but I got a bit cranky when the concert was over! I looked for the nearest bench! LOL Thanks for posting the set list, Laurie, I never have the energy to do that!
teesa_66
Thank you guys for all the great reviews!!!!! It WAS a GREAT, AMAZING show! It was also very great to see some wonderful friends. I'll have more to say, hopefully tomorrow. Thanks Laurie for posting the set list. I know I was supposed to, but I haven't really had any time to breathe at work (until now) to get on the net. You'd have thought I'd been off for a week instead of just a normal weekend. Anyone out there need a good receptionist? Terri
mrstromboli
Well hello "Mrstromboli" aka Shawn. Yeah. I was gonna ask you about the shoes, LOL. That's me at a rock club wearing what I wear...what can I tell ya. <G>
ladybugking
Kathy sez: Yeah. I was gonna ask you about the shoes, LOL. Shawn sez: That's me at a rock club wearing what I wear...what can I tell ya. You know, Shawn, you could have stuck your shoes to the ceiling and no one would have thought twice about it. You know...."look, more shoe ceiling art!" (Folks, if you are ever in Chicago, you gotta see the HOB. Just to look at all the funky art they have everywhere!)
