Styx Do Not Have The Talent Anymore To Write A New CD ?

I don't think I would say they don't have the talent, but it's a more economical issue: Who wants to pay to listen to it?

Anything new (original, not a cover) would get zero airplay, so how can you be motivated to write a hit radio tune if you know going in no one would want to play it.

The nostalgia circuit that they are currently on people just want to hear the hits (or unfortunately in their case, what few "hits" they will play). So it's beat the 10 songs to death.

As much as I would love to hear Dennis go a lot deeper into his catalog as a show, I realize that people are there to hear the hits, so he needs to appeal to the masses and play them. Unfortunately, that only leaves around two slots (+/-1) in the set list for other material. Currently, it's the new music. I understand.

I feel that JY and TS are more interested in playing live shows at this point. Plus they gain to earn more from that then any profits to be had from an album. Also, they would have to have a label that would be willing to release it and I think that is getting harder for them. Even more so now since DDY is not in the picture. I think that there are more people in the business that think this then have said so. I don't think that it is impossible for a band like Styx to get airplay. An example of that would be what happened to Aerosmith and their comeback. I think that we all just need to accept that Styx is now just a touring nostalgia band.

Yes ! Your right ................ Nostalgia act ............ What else can you be called at this point in their career . Thier not a vital act anymore ? No new material ? Don't have enough material to do a full show without throwing cover songs in ........

Actually , I rather go see DDY ! He has a full catalog , most of the hits were his songs ! He has new material that is fresh ! His band is great . They have fun up on stage , Whole different atmosphere !

Styx just does'nt have any energy anymore or the catalog ........... it been a drawn out sad decade for band that once was vital rock and roll act .

I would agree that DDYs show seems to stamd out over the current Styx show. I think that is partly due to the fact that he is not avoiding material like Styx does by not playing hits were DDY was involved. The fact that Styx is avoiding DDY's material is what hurts them. To me JY has a very narrow minded point of view when it comes to this. I single him out for this because he is the one that seems to be the most vocal about it. The fact that there was a soft and hard edge to music in their catalog is one of the things that made them stand out. Now it seems the focus seens to be how fast and loud can we play it. Additionally, things get watered down in a band when you have a split like Styx did. Especially when you lose principal members such as DDY. To me the current Styx line up seems more of a shadow of what it once was. Somewhat fake. I don't think JY and TS really understand that it was the three of them (DDY,JY & TS) that made Styx what it was. The magic formula if you will. No matter how you slice it Styx really isn't Styx without the three of them. JY & TS can spin it however they want but it's only better in their own minds. End of story.
